PEACE CHARTER INITIATIVE

Short Version 2026 – English

Based on non-violence, protection of life and human security
(Global, independent and non-binding instrument)

Preamble

Aware that the multiplication of violence, the degradation of the natural world, and persistent economic imbalances threaten peace, human security and the future of coming generations, the Participants affirm the need for a universal framework of peace based on non-violence, the protection of human life and respect for all living beings.

They recognize that certain fundamental structures of global governance, including international economic and monetary systems and institutional peace and security frameworks, have remained largely unchanged for more than eight decades, and that a peaceful and cooperative review of their adequacy to contemporary realities is a collective responsibility.

They adopt this Peace Charter Initiative, in continuity with the founding principles of the Charter of the United Nations and in coherence with the mechanisms it provides for peaceful evolution.

Article 1 – Nature of the Initiative

This Charter constitutes an independent, non-binding global initiative. It creates no international legal obligation and is not an instrument of the United Nations.

Article 2 – Fundamental Universal Principles

Human life is inalienable and represents the supreme value. Animal species fall under an increased responsibility. The Earth, mother of life, must be preserved and protected as an essential condition of peace, human security and societal continuity.

Global economic, monetary and institutional systems must be capable of peaceful re-examination when their functioning contributes to structural violence, instability or the subordination of life to debt and financial interests.

Article 3 – Non-Violence and Peaceful Means

Participants reject violence as a means of settling disputes. They commit to promoting exclusively peaceful means including prevention, dialogue, mediation, restorative justice and cooperation.

Article 4 – Inclusive Participation

The Initiative is open to States, peoples, Indigenous nations, traditional authorities, diasporas and communities, without implying recognition of sovereignty, international legal status or borders.

Article 5 – Local Ownership and Diversity

All actions undertaken under this Charter respect local, regional and cultural contexts and prioritize the involvement of communities directly concerned by peace processes.

Article 6 – Purpose

This Charter aims to inspire the peaceful evolution of governance frameworks and economic systems so that the protection of life, the Earth and human dignity prevails over all other considerations.
